The Return Of The Thin White Duke Into Your Hunky Dory Neighborhood Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Discover David Bowie And All His Infinite Glory

Dead-icated to my poor, sick little friend Trevor. Get better soon, ya poof!

I remember being around 10 years old and being over at my babysitter's house and looking through her massive collection of vinyl records. I was completely enthralled with looking at all of the covers. Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Supertramp, The Who, Fleetwood Mac.

I came upon Hunky Dory. I just loved the cover art of the handsome androgynous boy in the slightly hazy background. Then I came up onto Bowie's Station To Station. I was a bit mesmerized by the man on the cover with bright orange hair. What was that funky wall he was peering out of? I remember pulling the vinyl from it's sleeve and setting on the turntable. I still love that sound of the slightly scratchyness of the beginning of a song on vinyl! The title song, "Station To Station" took me on a journey and I loved every minute of it. From that moment I was hooked by David Bowie. Bowie's version of "Wild Is The Wind" is pretty darn incredible.

I think that Bowie is a musical genius. There was a week back in Jr. High where a friend and I listened to "Ziggy Stardust" over and over again on cassette. It just blew our young, impressionable minds away!

Bowie was always mysterious, and continued that into the 80's and 90's as well. He's reinvented himself seamlessly over the years and decades.
